Meet the new Kevo App for iOS: the latest update to the Kwikset Kevo Smart Lock platform.
Available February 1st, the new Kevo App for iOS grants all Kevo users new functionality, an updated user experience, and improved lock response. Download the new App from the App Store today to experience everything that Kevo has to offer.
Free eKeys
With Kevo users have always been able to instantly give, remove, and customize access to their home using eKeys. Starting February 1st Anytime eKeys, which were previously a $1.99 in-app purchase, are completely free. Any Kevo users who download the updated version of the iOS app will be able to issue Anytime eKeys to their family, friends, and neighbors at no cost.
Brush Detection
iOS users are also receiving an update that will help Kevo to understand when a door is in motion so that it will not throw the deadbolt. This is called “Brush Detection,” and uses the accelerometer inside your Kevo 2nd Generation lock. Our hope is that this new technology helps users avoid accidental locks and unlocks.
Updated UI
It’s been 3 years since Kwikset launched the Kevo Smart Lock, and apart from a few minor tweaks here and there, the user interface has remained largely the same. With the new application, users will experience a familiar and more intuitive user experience. Take a look at the all new app:
Improved Lock Response
Our engineers have also been hard at work with the Unikey team to improve the response rate of our smart lock. All users should experience faster response times and increased success rates as they move to the new iOS application.
Visit Kwikset.com/Kevo/application to find out more about all the functionality available to users through the Kevo App.

Will this fix 1st generation Kēvo issues? Our lock constantly activates inadvertently while we are coming and going. Also, the lock often activates with a brush when none of us have a phone near it (we threw the fobs away months ago so it’s not them being nearby). Will this update fix that? We are very concerned about the safety of our home. Thanks for continuing to improve the product but we paid too much to not have our first generation lock work adequately and provide us with a safe feeling when we are away – and even when we are home. We are mostly relying On our security system at this point. ?
Well said. I have the 1st generation lock as well and completely agree!
I have the 1st generation and mine does the same thing.
I agree with Merrie Beth – we purchased four of the first generation locks and have experienced the same with each lock. It would be great if an update was also available for the first generation lock as well.
We pulled the batteries out of ours because of the constant locking while in motion or when the lock was just brushed. But then when you actually needed it to unlock it was slow and didn’t work reliably. I hope I have the 2nd gen, because if I don’t I certainly won’t bother to upgrade. Big waste of money.
I also have the 1st generation v1.4.13 and it does the same things.
SO MAD. Just got off the phone with Kevo support. So, you come out with brush detection in GEN2 but there’s NO upgrade path for GEN1 customers – who were the LOYAL early adopters like me who have been with you for four years. Bad business. When I purchased the Kevo it was really the only game in town. Now there’s competition. If you piss off your existing customers, when it’s time to replace they are going to look ELSEWHERE. Epic Fail.
Forget brush detection for first gen, there is no accelerometer, and frankly there doesn’t need to be. give us the option of a double tap for those of us experiencing these issues. I have 2 kevo kwiksets, and love them but the notch on my door frame from accidental engages is unsightly. a simple firmware update to the gen 1 locks should allow us to prevent these accidental locking or unlocking.
a double tap is 99% just as convenient as a single tap, and much less likely to be confused by a brush or accidental graze.
Any word on Apple Homekit for Kevo? I realize the Premis touchscreen is homekit friendly but I already have the kevo lock and I’m not really interested in a touchscreen. That all being said, I’m very happy with the update. I have already noticed better response!

Hi Daniel,
Please give the new application and firmware a try either way, there are product improvements beyond brush detection that should improve your experience with Kevo 1st Gen or Kevo 2nd Gen.
Thank you,
Devon, Kwikset Community Manager

Hi James,
Great idea, we’ll share this will the product development team immediately. Could be a real solution for our Kevo 1st Gen users.
Thank you for sharing,
Devon, Kwikset Community Manager
Hi Mike,
So happy to hear that you’re already noticing the improvements with our Gen 2 App! We haven’t ruled out a future version of Kevo that supports HomeKit, but we do not have a timeline in place for a consumer launch.
Thanks,
Devon, Kwikset Community Manager
Hi Alan,
Our product team is evaluating the feasibility of implementing brush detection in Kevo 1st Gen hardware. We do appreciate the support of our early adopters and look forward to supporting your hardware with incremental improvements for years to come.
Thank you,
Devon, Kwikset Community Manager
Devon, Thanks for your reply. But that’s not the point. The issue is that you are selling 2 versions of the product still that by your own admission one is less secure and inferior – (https://kevo.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/225459427-Are-there-new-features-in-Kevo-Smart-Lock-2nd-Gen-compared-to-Kevo-Smart-Lock-1st-Gen-) Yet there is no transition/trade-in/upgrade path for those early adopters and loyal customers (like me and the others posting here). Here’s Scenario 1- I keep my gen1 till it eventually either fails, wears out, or i finally have had enough of the brush issue. Then I am in the market and will definitely not get a Kevo because of this. -OR- Scenario 2 – You offer existing Gen1 customers a *reasonable* rebate off a trade up to a Gen2 – You get a NEW sale, a longterm customer and have one less gen1 to support. It’s just good business, but as I’ve evidenced, this is probably not going to happen. SMH.
Is it just me or does the app look just like the old one? It would be nice if you could add pictures to your users to easily differentiate when sendin keys or looking at logs. It would also be nice if it remembered previous users so it’s easy to send new keys without having to go through your entire contact list. I think keevo is a superior lock but when it comes to the app the august is far superior. Hopefully they make it more like the august app in the near future.
James- totally agree and have all the problems mentioned above. Devon- I got a Lockstate deadbolt on my second home because of these problems and the interface and functionality is FAR superior. My guests complain about the KEVO and love the Lockstate. What can we do here?
Hello. Was there a firmware upgrade for the lock with this update? If so, I can’t find it through the app. We’re still having issues where the 2nd Gen is not opening consistently.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE my Kevo. It is the 2nd Gen but I have had absolutely no problems with it. I love the new 2/1/17 updated app, makes good even better! I live in SF, so my only worry is what happens if I there is a major quake and no power, I’ll be sitting on my porch for weeks lol!
Vers 1.4.13 lock can it be upgrade for brush accidental lock?? Thanks
Pat
Just uninstalled my kevo app for the first time since we got the 1st generation on pre-order. One of your longest customers since seeing it on Shark Tank. The new version of the app is a blood sucking battery hog. The last 7 days it is the highest usage of any of my apps. 18%! Over 7 days, for a combined 2-3 minutes of actual usage?!?
Back to using a key till you update the app to fix that. Roll back the clock 2-3 years!
So frustrated!
This may also solve the issue we’ve been having with Kevo activating from the sun or from a touch on the door or door knob
Is there anyways to use ALL features like locking my door when I’m not home on the app without buying the 100 or 99 dollar hub? We have an Alexa hub and I would rather not have ANOTHER hub?
