I’ve had the Kevo smart lock from Kwikset for a few weeks now and I really appreciate what this product has to offer in terms of convenience and home security.
Since installing Kevo, I haven’t used a traditional key for my front door. Kevo is super easy to setup and use, and I’m not the only one who thinks so. My family gets an absolute kick out of it; I send them electronic keys to access the lock with their smartphones, which is really easy to do with the Kevo app from the App Store. Whether I’m using my iPhone or key fob included in the package, I’m absolutely in love with this smart home security product.
Installation took about 20 minutes and required only a Phillips-head screwdriver. Installation included removing the old deadbolt, which took some time, but replacing it with Kevo was hassle-free. I used the instruction manual and was up and running with Kevo in minutes. Before I knew it, my front door was unlocking and locking automatically whenever I touched the deadbolt!
There are two things I love about Kevo:
- You don’t need to hold the phone or key fob up to Kevo in order to lock or unlock the door. Instead, I leave one or the other in my pocket, touch the lock and Kevo will unlock or lock perfectly. From this point, it seems as though Kevo works like magic. If I’m going to pull something out of my pocket, it may as well be the actual keys, but the Kevo saves me from doing that. I keep the phone in my pocket and my keys in my bag, and Kevo works flawlessly.
- It has my phone memorized, meaning that I don’t need the Kevo app running in the background on my iPhone anymore in order to engage the lock. I always have Bluetooth turned ON (since my Apple Watch depends on iPhone’s Bluetooth signal), and whenever I come near my front door, I don’t have to do anything except tap the lock, and it will unlock or lock. No app-opening necessary. This is fantastic, as I’m the one who always kills his apps from the App Switcher in iOS to conserve battery.
Of course, Kevo will know when you walk away or aren’t in range and won’t unlock or lock, so don’t worry about someone following you in after closing your door or attempting to break in – I’ve tested it, and like I said, the Kevo knows.
That’s my review of Kevo. It definitely goes down as one of my favorites. I’m excited to continue to use it every day and already cannot imagine going back to a standard deadbolt.
